Democrat Pam Deichmann, 59, of Winterset has announced her intention to run for the Iowa House District 25 election.
Deichmann sent a press release Monday afternoon.
According to the release, she has worked as a nurse and public health official for the last 30 years.
“Deichmann felt Madison and Warren Counties were ready for a change in leadership and want a balanced ethical and open door approach to discuss issues and solve problems facing Madison and Warren Counties today and in the future,” according to the release.
Democrats from Warren and Madison Counties will meet at 6:30 in the Winterset Public Library on Dec. 9 to choose a candidate to run for the House seat.
Iowa House District 25 includes Madison County, the cities of Bevington, Milo and Norwalk, plus Jackson, Otter, Squaw, Virginia and White Oak townships in Warren County. It also covers all of Linn Township that is south of Cumming.
Stan Gustafson, 71, of Cumming will represent the GOP in the race. Gustafson was selected during a convention held Dec. 2.
The election follows the resignation of Julian Garrett, who ran for and won the Iowa Senate District 13 seat in November.
