ICYF Year in Review

Categories: Indianola

It has been a great year for ICYF.  We want to offer our thanks to this Indianola community, recap our year, and let you know our plans for 2014 and beyond.

Blake Fieldhouse

Over 600 hours of free, supervised open gym time was offered throughout this past year to the Indianola community at the Blake Fieldhouse by ICYF during non-school hours. Additionally, the Fieldhouse is used daily before school by middle school students to shoot hoops and hang out, for PE classes, and after school for volleyball and basketball practices. The Fieldhouse hosted concerts, dances, graduation ceremonies, basketball tournaments, wrestling, volleyball and  indoor soccer tournaments, and Post-Prom activities. It is used by the track, soccer, and baseball teams as a rain location for their practices, and this past August, the football team was able to hold practices in the Fieldhouse to escape the heat.

 Nutrition Program

ICYF and registered dietitian Jennifer DeWall have created general nutrition information and sports-specific nutritional plans available on our website. Beginning with the 2013 spring sports season, ICYF packed snacks for 263 athletes before their conference or regional events, at the discretion of the coaches.

Community Involvement

ICYF partnered with the Indianola Athletic Booster Club to sponsor guest speakers at the Meet the Indians events in March and August. Proceeds from the Lace Up for Literacy 5K run/walk were donated to the Indianola Preschool and Wee Care.

Our Staff

We hired an Executive Director, Kim Seberg, in January. We are now working with Simpson College in a work-study capacity to supervise the Blake Fieldhouse during ICYF open gym sessions.

2014 and Beyond…

We look forward to continuing to build on Indianola’s reputation as a community committed to its youth. Mark your calendars for our annual poker tournament, Cards with Casey, on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Registration information will be on our website closer to the tournament. As you can see from above, ICYF does great things and we look forward to building on that success well into the future.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Go Indians!
